Lighting Masts

Lighting masts

A lighting mast is an engineering lighting construction intended for the lighting of both separate objects and city infrastructure. The design and shape of lighting masts depend on specific tasks they need to solve.

Main types of lighting masts

The height of these technical structures is determined by the purposes they are meant to serve:

Up to 7 meters. These masts are used to light construction sites, parking lots, open storage grounds, etc. They are equipped with a crown bracket that is used to change the direction of the light stream.

10 meters and higher. To mount lighting masts of such an impressive height, it is necessary to use durable lighting poles. The latter allows you to install powerful spotlights at a height of 50-55 meters. Such constructions are used, for example, in airports and stadiums. The crown brackets of these masts are not movable, which means that the light stream direction cannot be changed.

As a rule, to manufacture these masts we use durable high-carbon or alloyed steel strong enough to bear the wind load which tends to be rather high at heights of over ten meters. However, in some cases we use stainless steel or aluminum; both are resistant to corrosion which increases their service life.

Lighting pole crown brackets

The crown bracket is the place where one or several lighting devices are installed.

If the lighting mast is 7 meters or higher, it is only allowed to use crown brackets with fixed joints. At that, the degree of fixity is determined by the number of lighting devices that are to be installed on a mast.

Number of lighting devices

In most cases, a lighting mast carries one spotlight, the brightness of which may vary. However, when it is necessary to illuminate large areas, for example, an airport or stadium, the crown bracket may carry several dozen of bright spotlights. This number of lights can give a light stream powerful enough not to be broken in the event of rain, snowfall, or thick fog.

Technical requirements for lighting mast installation

Lighting masts are mounted on a base plate which, in turn, is rigidly fixed with bolts on a reinforced concrete foundation.

The characteristics of this foundation are determined by a large number of factors:

  • The construction height;
  • The crown bracket size;
  • Wind load;
  • Specifics of the soil located under the foundation, etc.

The Metalogalva company will draft all the technical and design documentation necessary to manufacture and install lighting masts of any height and for any purpose. We will also produce the mast for further installation.

Configuration

Spotlight masts are considered to be high-risk constructions that require enhanced responsibility during production and installation. They are mounted at strategic sites such as construction sites, mining zones, excavation sites, and open storage and industrial zones. Plus, these can be used for public infrastructure objects that may host large crowds – sports arenas and stadiums, airport terminals, bus and train stations, river and sea ports, malls, markets, megamarkets, gas stations, etc.

Lighting masts must be compliant with the strictest strength and safety regulations. These constructions are meant to withstand extreme operating conditions and have increased safety margins as the mast will have to carry lighting and communication equipment along with security systems.

Metal spotlight masts can be stationary and portable. Dismountable constructions can be transported and are intended for multiple uses at different sites. They are easily assembled and dismounted without any loss of their original technical characteristics.
